Legendary Brooklyn MC Dana Dane and his wife Tana Tane discuss whether men or women are better communicators. They dive into their own communication styles as it relates to their relationship.
“I know people out there have different ways of communicating with each other,” Dana says, “Unspoken communication. The eye.”
“You get that a lot,” Tana says, “but I get a lot of the mouth, too.”
“You think you are a better communicator then I,” Dana says.
“I would not say a better communicator,” Tana responds, “but I would say just as good of a communicator…A rapper does not make a great communicator, and they are not one in the same.”
Dana explains that they both start conversations without finishing their thoughts completely.
“We both tend to start a conversation in the middle of another conversation,” he says.
Tana then explains that Dana does it more than she does.
“I told you that you do it more than I do,” she says. “Maybe if you spoke to me in rhyme that would make it clearer, because you are not as clear as you think you are. I give you credit because you are direct and in a lot of ways have no filter.”
Dana explains that Tana is not a communicator that she thinks she is and that she holds stuff in.
Switching gears, Dana addresses their communication around other people.
“You intimidate people when you talk,” Tana says. “When you speak, sometimes it comes off as snappy, edgy and direct and I understand it because we have been communicating for years, but someone new to the situation will be like, ‘Oh my god. He’s so mean to her.’”
“I am from Brooklyn,” Dana explains, “and I say what I mean and I mean what I say or I don’t say anything at all.”
