G Perico is a burgeoning rap star from Los Angeles. His most recent project is Tha Innerprize Two and he has appeared on tracks with AD and Nipsey Hussle. In an episode of Unique Access, G Perico describes how he’s had to build his buzz by himself.
“The whole thing started with me was shit, nobody wanted to collaborate with me,” he says. “From the jump, I couldn’t get a feature from nobody. So I just start taking my joint Tha Innerprize Two, I pretty much took that to the face. It knocked down a lot of doors for me and shit. People started reaching out.”
Despite this hustle, G Perico is quick to say that Nipsey Hussle has always been supportive of his career. He enlisted G Perico for his “Basic Instinct” cut and seemingly wanted to collab more, but time did not permit.
“I don’t wanna say nobody wanted to collaborate with me because from the beginning, Nipsey always extended his hand to me,” he says. “Just time and him being busy and all that shit. When I was working on Innerprize Two, he was real busy with the Crenshaw shit.”
He also was featured on AD‘s By The Way cut “Strapped” with RJ. They shot the video on G Perrico’s birthday with plenty of liquor.
“We had a good time,” G Perico says of the day. “AD another good dude, extended his hand and whatever he could do. So I definitely appreciate him. That’s bro right there.”
G Perico is now working on a solo project called Shit Don’t Stop. His hustle doesn’t stop and he details how his personality and background don’t allow him to wait around for someone to give him a handout in the industry.
“I don’t really got time to wait,” he says. “That’s how I feel. I don’t got time to sit around waiting for somebody or saying that I need the to do this to make this happen. I just need to go. It’s really just the mentality in the hood. I hate to say it, but coming from where we come from, niggas don’t last that long. It’s pretty much now or never, so I can’t sit around waiting for somebody to tell me how I should do it or what I should do. I’m also a student in the game. So just from me studying and shit. I done watch people get deals and they don’t have any momentum of their own so they was kinda like shelved for a second until they figure out, or the label got them chasing a fad. So really my whole thing is to create my own movement and the way I’m going. If I do get with, I wouldn’t say signed with a label, I would get with them as a strategic partner, if I do get with, which I’m not against, then they would already see what I got going and they just need to put that on steroids and blow it out.”
