AD Describes Lessons Learned From Legends

AD just released his seventh official mixtape with By The Way. Even though the Compton, California rapper caught national attention with last year’s single, “The Juice,” AD has been cranking out projects for a few years now. As he’s come up in the game, he says he has learned the importance of quality over quantity.

“At first we was like, ‘We need to put out content, content, content, content,'” he says during an episode of Unique Access. “Now, it’s like, when you to take your time, polishing everything, making sure everything is perfect, you got time to execute more. Putting out two projects a year, you’re on the clock. There’s a lot that you have to do. So sometimes the quality of it and the ideas are just thrown together, basically versus you really trying to put together a whole body of work and take your time and make sure everything sonically sounds good.”

He says he’s learned this from many of the legends that he’s had the opportunity to work with. AD has co-signs from Xzibit and Kendrick Lamar and was featured on “My Flag,” a cut from The Game’s The Documentary 2.5. He says that being included on a historic project like that was very important to him.

“I take real pride in you can put me on a song, you can put me on a mixtape, I’ll be grateful,” he says. “You put me on an album, that’s forever. That’s history right there. That’s my first album.”

Along with Eazy-E and Mausberg, The Game has solidified himself as a Compton legend in AD’s eyes, which made working with him extra special.

“Me before I even knew Game, growing up in Compton, that was like, man, that’s Superman right there,” he says.
